In The Bag

Irons

I played Ping G10's for around 5 seasons and had plenty of success with them ( handicap dropped from 11 to 7 ). My intention was to reach a consistent level before changing to either Mizuno or Titleist as I trialed those particular brands and really liked the results. In the end I went for the Titleist AP2 710 and am thoroughly enjoying the feel and control these Irons give. Due to the technology available to all levels of golfer, I had the irons custom fit to my exact specs, which gives me added confidence every time I address a ball with an Iron in hand...........I would highly recommend the AP2's to any single figure handicapper looking to go low.

Specifications : Set: 3-PW

                          Shafts: Project x (6.5), 1/2"long

Lofts: delofted(tour spec) Lies: 2deg upright

Wedges

These wedges pretty much speak for themselves. In terms of control going into and around the greens, the Titleist Vokey is the best I've used to date. Like every amateur, I wanted that bounce and check on the short pitches also that elusive backspin on approaches, I wasn't disappointed. Don't get me wrong, you don't get that control without proper technique, but with patience and practise I continue to expand my repertoire of short game shots with real confidence with the Vokeys.

Specifications : Shafts: Dynamic Gold (wedge flex)
                         Lofts: 52, 56, 60 Bounce: 8deg Lies: 2deg upright

Driver

"The confidence stick", as I like to call it, took a while and a lot of trialing but I finally settled on the Titleist 910 D2. With its adjustability, it's given me a good variety of shot shapes and trajectories without having to really change my swing . Once in the bag, my fairways hit percentage improved dramatically also the extra distance didn't hurt. Money and time well spent.

Specifications : Shaft: Diamana Blue Kaili 65 (stiff)
                         Loft: 9.5deg (adjustable)

Fairway woods/utility clubs

For the last 3 seasons I haven't carried anything longer (under my Driver) than my 21deg Hybrid, which was fine for doglegged holes and narrow, short par 4's but now with the Titleist 910F, I have another option. On the correct setting I can hit a lovely penetrating cut, which is a great shot to have at my club. With the added distance this club gives me I can now attack those tricky greens with short irons and those long par 5's in two.

Specifications : Shaft: Graphite Design YS 6+ (stiff)
                         Loft: 15deg (adjustable)

This club has been my saviour. When I lost all confidence with my old Driver this little beauty kept me playing (and sane). It's not quite a 3 or a 4 iron but, I've found, somewhere in between. I used this club off the tee on pretty much every par 4 and 5, knowing with a good swing I would hit the fairway at around the 220yrd mark. It's also a great club for those low stingers and getting out of trouble. The shaft is only a Reg Flex but I can't find a reason, as yet, to change it.

Specifications : Shaft: Diamana 80 HY (reg)
                         Loft: 21deg

 Putter

I'm not one for changing my putter on a regular basis hoping for that magical fix, so for a good few years now, I've been using an Odyssey White Hot 2Ball. I found the 2Ball was a great help when it came to my alignment over putts (still work on it diligently). I recently downloaded iPing and found that I really needed a toe down putter to suit my stroke so I will probably (although very reluctantly) look to test out something more suited rather than change everything. I did replace the original grip with a more chunky midsized one, this really helped reducing my hand and wrist becoming too active.
